Living a Life of Purpose with Jessica Honegger

As a social entrepreneur and founder and co-CEO of Noonday Collection, Jessica Honegger aims to do everything with boundless courage. But just as happiness is not the absence of sadness, and faith is not the absence of doubt, courage is not the absence of fear. In her highly-anticipated book,Imperfect Courage: Live a Life of Purpose by Leaving Comfort and Going Scared, Honegger shares her inspiring story to drive her readers to have the courage to acknowledge fear, be uncomfortable in it and run towards their dreams.

Jessica’s roaring success informs her unique perspective: Noonday ranked no. 45 in Inc. Magazine’s 2015 list of the 5,000 fastest growing companies in America. The same year, Inc. also recognized Noonday as the third-fastest-growing American business owned by a woman. In 2017, Jessica received the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Imperfect Courageserves as motivation for readers to stop worrying about what could go wrong and instead, jump in feet-first to achieve what that were put on this Earth to do.

Honegger reflects in the book about how she started Noonday Collection.

“What do you do when you are strapped for cash? You start a fair-trade artisan-made fashion company. Duh. And what do you do when you have no cash to start that business? You pawn your precious heirloom jewelry at the seediest pawnshop in town. Oh yeah, girl. Nothing like a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes.”

In Imperfect Courage, Honegger shares a rare, behind the scenes look at her highly-successful business and her journey to get there. Noonday Collection is the largest fair-trade jewelry company in the world, but it began as a big dream in a tiny guest room. Imperfect Couragealso explores other human areas, including the complex realm of international adoption. Honegger shares her own struggles, gambles and victories through stories about business and family.

Honegger shares in the book, her view of fear.

“Instead of waiting for fear to subside, I had made it my friend. Because when you’ve got a vision, you don’t have time to wait around for your fears to vanish before you start moving. Perhaps the hero’s journey is not for a few brave people after all, but an invitation to me, to us all, to rally our courage and go do the thing we’re meant to do.”

“This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:17-19

Risen Reflections

Drive out fear. Whether it is the fear of being accepted, fear of getting fired, or fear of a loved one not being in heaven, the only want to get rid of our fear is through experiencing God’s perfect love. If you have a situation or relationship that is causing you to fear, pray and ask God to help give you His peace through the Holy Spirit. Ask Him for His perspective and truth on the situation. It can often be helpful to talk to a pastor or counselor, who can provide a fresh perspective on the situation.

Be obedient to God’s vision and calling. It might be starting a new company or ministry at church. It might be doing an outreach with your classmates or teammates. God has entrusted each of us with a set of gifts and talents that is unique. Take time this weekend to spend a couple hours reflecting on your calling. Pray and ask God to show you how He wants you to be using your gifts and talents. Don’t limit God. Even if it doesn’t seem like all of the resources or doors are open, trust that God will provide. Ask Him to show you what steps to take and connect you with people who can help make the vision come to life.

Live a life of purpose. There are 24 hours in a day, seven days in a week, and 52 weeks in a year. How will you use the time that God has entrusted you to impact His kingdom? It is good to relax, but sometimes our relaxation can become complacency or even laziness. Ask God to show you if you are being a good steward of your time. There might be an opportunity to mentor someone, serve in a ministry, or volunteer with an organization, but you have to be willing to get out from your computer and stop streaming shows.
