Never Too Much…Always Enough

We’ve all been there. We know that sneaking, small voice in our heads all too well—you’re too loud. Too quiet. Too young. Too old. Too unimportant. Too ugly. Too silly. Too serious. You’re not as successful as she is—look at her perfect family, look at her high-powered job, look at her great hair and size 4 skinny jeans. Why can’t you be more like her—be more in general? Why do you expect so much from everyone? Why can’t you take up less space? Ask for less? Be less? The lies track well-worn paths in our minds and our hearts, wearing us down and making us question our role in God’s kingdom.

Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan are great friends with a big passion. They lead women in their churches and communities and online as authors, speakers, and business owners of All Good Things Collective and Nellie Taft. They are also the co-founders of Influence Conference and Network. In their unique positions and from their unique perspectives, Connolly and Morgan decided to answer this modern question: “Why don’t I ever feel like I’m enough?” and on the flipside, “Why do I feel like I’m too much when I’m just being myself”? They wrote a flip-book answering both questions called, Never Too Much Always Enough.

This devotional flip-book is designed for the woman who feels like she can be both too much and not enough—sometimes in the same day. There are 50 devotions for each of the two messages. From talking about disappointing others to having no filter, Connolly and Morgan couple their own experience with God’s truth. When you banish lies and insecurities and find your identity in Jesus, you can embrace these truths: You are always enough. You are never too much.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.  2 Corinthians 10:4-6

Risen Reflections

Banish the lies. The best way to fight a lie is with the truth. Take time this week to get into God’s truth, the Bible. Ask a small group leader or pastor for wisdom on passages or scripture that can be helpful with the situation that you are going through. See if there is a devotional in Always Enough Never Too Much that talks about what you are questioning. Pray and ask God to help you identify any lies that you might be believing about yourself. Ask Him to cover you in His truth and to help you take captive every thought.

Be a truth teller. As believers, we need to help others fight the lies they are being told. One of the best ways to do that is through encouragement. Our words either have the power to bring life to someone or tear them down. Take time this week to encourage someone in your life. Write them a note or grab coffee with them and share with them something that they have done or a character quality in them that you appreciate. Often in conversation, friends and colleagues will put themselves or someone else down. Be willing to take a stand. When they start to put themselves down, tell them something positive that you have seen them do. If they start to put someone else down, share a way that person has helped you or something you like about that person.

Share your journey. If you have had an experience that can help another person, share it. Start by writing it down. Describe what the situation was like, what you were thinking and feeling, and what your relationship with God was like. Talk about how God helped you in and through the experience. Don’t forget to include any verses that were encouraging to you. Pray about where God wants you to share your story. It might be on a blog or social media. It could be with your small group or ministry or even in a large group setting. Be willing and obedient to share what He has taught you. There are others that might be going through something similar that need some encouragement.
