Night Night Bible Stories

Bedtime can be challenging whether you are young or old. For adults, our minds are often swirling with things we need to get done the rest of the week or we are beyond exhausted and we find it difficult to fall asleep. According to a study done by Gallup, fifty-nine percent of Americans get seven or more hours of sleep at night, while 40% get less than seven hours. Seven hours is the recommended amount and medical studies have shown a relationship between lack of sleep to health problems and cognitive impairment.

Children can have difficulty sleeping too. It can be needing the comfort of a loved one to read them a story or being scared of the dark. Regardless of age or stage of life, reading a Bible story before bed can help you not only wind down from the day, but give perspective for the next day. Bedtime can be a great time to share with your children timeless messages of faith from the Bible. For old and new fans of Amy Parker Night Night books, Night Night Bible Stories is sure help your little ones fall asleep feeling safe and loved. Amy Parker and Virginia Allyn, the author-illustrator pair you know and love from the bestselling books Night Night, Farm and Night Night, Train, have teamed up again for their first bedtime Bible storybook.

Night Night Bible Stories includes 30 stories from the Old and New Testaments told in narration. Each Bible story features rhyming takeaways to remind little ones of God’s love and care along with a sweet bedtime prayer. Stories include: When the World Was Made, The World’s Bravest Queen, An Angel Visits Mary, Jesus Lives, and Go Tell the World!

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Risen Reflections

Establish a bed time routine. Whether you are fifty years old or fifteen, having a bed time routine can help you fall asleep. This week try and go to bed at the same exact time. Make reading a devotional and prayer part of your bedtime routine. If you have children, do the same for them. Whether it is Night Night Bible Stories or another book, it can be fun to pick out a new devotional or book to read together as a family for bedtime. After you read the devotional, take time to reflect on what you read.

Cast your cares on Him. Often times, anxiety and the worries of life can cause us to have trouble sleeping. God wants us to cast our cares on him. As we pray, He will give us His peace, which goes beyond understanding. Take time this week to daily pray. It could be as you get ready for work in the morning, on your drive to drop the kids off at school or at night after you reflect on your devotional reading. Try to make it be a dedicated time of prayer where you can lift up your requests and burdens to God. Remember God doesn’t care if we have the perfect language or words when we pray, He just wants to spend time with us. Sometimes it can help to write down your prayer to help you focus too. If you have children, pray with them too. Their faith can often remind us of the faith or outlook God wants us to have in a situation.

Make a change. Sometimes if we are exhausted or having trouble sleeping, we might need to make a change. It could be something in our schedule like eliminating a commitment or changing a lifestyle habit. Take time this week and ask God to show you if there is something in your life that needs change. Be open to the Holy Spirit. Often times, good things in our life are not God’s best for us and we have become so busy and exhausted that we miss out on what God is really calling us to do.
