Risen’s current cover story features Rodrigo Santoro who plays Jesus in the “re-imagining” of this beloved story. The 1959 version of the epic historical drama Ben-Hur won an unprecedented 11 Oscars and was based on the best-selling novel of the 19th century “Ben-Hur: A Tale of Christ,” written in 1880 by Union Civil War general Lew Wallace. The movie had the largest budget and the largest sets built of any film produced at the time. Nearly 60 years later the timeless themes are tackled once again.
